Brief History
GreenWorks CDC was established in 2006 as a consulting and management firm to serve start-up non-profit organizations. Xiomara Smith started the organization after serving as a director for the Bedford YMCA, where she developed and managed several programs, including a workforce development initiative for at-risk youth.
GreenWorks was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2008 and is currenlty being incubated at the City University of New York Graduate Center for Worker Education. As part of the Centers effort to research and evaluate working conditions in New York City, GreenWorks explores the relationship between environmental education and future labor demands and seeks to address how to best prepare low-income residents and those that service them for an emerging green economy.
What We Do
By establishing relationships with workforce development service providers, schools and colleges, GreenWorks develops innovative program models aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of existing job training and education systems by integrating green economics into programs and curriculum.
