Sustainability Management In Context

Many non-profit executives have already recognized the benefits of sustainability management within their organizations. Addressing the environmental and social impacts of an organizations activities, can lead to the development of new and innovative services and programs that can increase the number of clients served, and help ensure long-term viability of an organization through cost-saving measures.

Funders and policymakers are beginning to show concern not only for eco-efficiency, but in how organizations work collaboratively to address the environmental, social and economic needs of the communities they serve.

Thus, the non-profit debate concerning sustainability is shifting from how to diversify funding sources to questions of competitive advantage and non-profit governance. New and emerging opportunities in education, energy and green job creation are forcing non-profit leaders to address issues such as environmental quality, social justice and economic efficiency.

As the public debate around sustainability continues to grow, more and more non-profit organizations will need to develop a sustainability agenda as an integral part of their organizational strategy. The Center for Sustainability Management was established to train non-profit professionals to develop formalized sustainability initiatives within their organization; to provide resources to assist front-line staff in developing, expanding and improving their organizations programming; and to provide professional development workshops to enhance personal and organizational sustainability goals.

The Center for Sustainability Management Programs Include:

•Sustainability Certificate Program for Non-Profit Executives
•Technical Assistance
•Professional Development Workshop Series
•Mentor Fellows Program
